When I was a child I loved winter because we spent hours, just hours outdoors sliding down hills, skiing or skating. I never seemed to feel the cold. Those days are long gone so now I agree that a big pot of soup is the best thing. Next best is a good book. To each his own.
Reading this felt like a warm bear hug. I especially loved the section about going dancing in the winter -- just like we crave the mental gift of human connection, the impact that physical touch can have on our fulfillment is indescribable. Thank you for this beautiful piece, I will be coming back to it <3
omg I’m also from portland! I love our winters, my neighborhood puts up christmas lights starting juuuust before thanksgiving and I make a point of taking a daily after-work walk once they’re up just to admire the festive detail we’ve put into living in this particular place. there’s some luck in living in somewhere that experiences the seasons, but without the extreme chill or heat that make it impossible to enjoy being in it. some great reminders here that I’ll be sending to friends :))
the portland grey definitely makes me wish it snowed more often but i love visiting the xmas tree in pioneer square and the grotto lights and seeing the nutcracker at the keller!!
